This week, I happened to find Martha Stewart’s Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe. It’s been a while since I made my last chewy chocolate chip cookies, but from the moment I saw that recipe I could literally smell the cozy scent that fills my house when I make them.

I knew I can’t possibly go wrong with any of Martha Stewart’s cookie recipes and it looked really simple which is what I always aim for. That said, it probably took me less than a second to decide if I should give it a shot.

But then, a big question popped out.

Should I make crispy or chewy chocolate chip cookies?

Hmm… Tough call. People are usually split when it comes to oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Some like them crispy, others like them chewy.

I simply can’t stay within the exact instructions of a single recipe. But then again, cooking is an art and I guess everybody likes to make adjustments consistent with their own taste and vision.

If you ask Jamie Oliver and Martha Stewart to make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, I am sure you will get two very delicious but very different cookies. That’s because they are both great chefs, but different people with different taste and vision.

So I like bringing my own touch to all the recipes I make and I think you too should be as creative as possible in the kitchen. You don’t need to change a recipe entirely. Just make some simple tweaks which might lead to a delicious dish with a whole new taste.

And since we all have different tastes, what I think is the best oatmeal chocolate chip cookies doesn’t mean they are the same for everyone.

Maybe you like them sweeter so you need to add more sugar. Or maybe you like them more chocolatey,  I don’t know… you get the point.

As I said before, I know that there are a lot of people who prefer crispy chocolate chip cookies. For those of you, I have a simple trick which you can use to make your perfect cookies.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

You can make this easy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies recipe in under 30 min. Have them for dessert or as a snack with your tea/coffee. Make them chewy or crispy, either way you'll love them

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup (185g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 sticks (220g) salted butter - softened
  • 1 cup (220g) brown sugar (cane sugar)
  • 2 large eggs - free range
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cup (135g) rolled oats - gluten free
  • 1 cup (170g) dark chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F/180°C. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and nutmeg. Add the flour, oatmeal, and baking soda. Stir well to combine. Add in the chocolate chips and give it one more stir.
  • Using a slightly large spoon or an ice cream scoop or, drop spoonfuls onto the baking sheets, spacing the dough 1 inch apart. 
  • Bake for about 12 minutes, until lightly golden in color. Remove to cooling racks.

    Tweaked this a little bit and used with oats with dried blueberries and cranberries mixed in, makes super delicious juicy chewy cookies with the perfect slight crunch on the outside! Yummmm! My 3 year old also loved helping mix up the ingredients, thanks for this recipe!
