Hey Foodies,

Today I am going to show you how to make a Greek salad with bacon and avocado in just 15 minutes. This recipe is not just super easy and delicious but also Keto-friendly, which is great if you are on a low-carb diet.

Furthermore, it’s full of fresh veggies which makes it a perfect spring/summer salad.

Usually, a Greek salad is made only with feta cheese, olives and veggies, and it is often served as a side-dish. But I have adapted and made it more consistent by adding two simple ingredients: bacon and avocado.

But no matter how easy it is, you still need to know a few tricks to make the best bacon avocado salad ever.

You’ll want to know what kind of dressing goes on a Greek salad, what to serve with it or how to adapt this easy bacon avocado salad recipe.

And I’ll tell you all that and much more in the tips and tricks below. But first, let me answer a question, which I’ve been seeing quite often, about avocado and the Keto diet.

Is Avocado Keto-friendly and how many carbs does it have?

The short answer is Yes, avocado is keto-friendly and most diets include it because it has so many health benefits. Now here’s why.

100 grams of avocado contains 9 grams of carbs, which may seem quite a bit at first glance, but only 2 of those are net carbs while the others are fiber. This makes it perfect for any low-carb diet.

So if you had any worries that this bacon avocado salad is not keto-friendly (or maybe right at the edge) because of the avocado, I hope this clears everything out.

Now let’s move on to the tips and tricks and see how to make one of the best low carb avocado recipes.

1. Which ingredients can be changed in easy bacon avocado salad recipe

You can add many kinds of veggies and here are a few that are also Keto:

  • romaine
  • baby spinach
  • green onions
  • zucchini
  • Kale
  • celery
  • radishes
  • cabbage

If you want it more consistent, you can add chicken, turkey, beef or shrimps. This will add plenty of protein and will make it more nutritious and filling.

And if you are not dieting, you can replace some veggies with any of your favorites.

Now let’s see what we can serve with this bacon avocado Greek salad.

2. What to serve with bacon avocado Greek salad

This Greek salad with avocado and bacon is usually served as a main, but it would also go perfectly with a grilled steak or chicken. Come to think about it, I can’t wait to see some good weather to fire up the grill.

And you can also serve it with roasted chicken or veggies. To keep it keto, it’s best to serve it with lean meat as it is already loaded with veggies.

And the last tip for today is…

3. What kind of dressing goes on this Greek salad

As you can see in the recipe, I made a simple Greek dressing that goes perfectly with any salad. I usually double or triple the recipe to make a large batch, and then I keep it in the fridge for up to a week.

This way, I’ll have it handy any time I’m in the mood for a quick salad.

And here’s a quick tip for this Greek dressing: if you want it even creamier, add an extra 2 spoonfuls of full-fat Greek yogurt.

Now, if this dressing is not exactly your cup of tea, here are some others that would go well with this bacon avocado Greek salad:

Greek Dressing:

  • 2 Tbsp olive oil extra virgin
  • 3 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 lemon juiced
  • 1 Tbsp raw honey
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

Italian Dressing (not Keto):

  • 1/4 cup olive oil extra virgin
  • 3 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp fresh lime or lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp raw honey
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried crushed red pepper or chili flakes
  • sea salt and fresh ground black pepper

Actually, both of these dressings would go perfectly well with any Greek salad, not just this one.

Ingredients

  • 8 thin stripes cooked bacon - crumbled
  • 1 large avocado - peeled, pitted and chopped
  • 1 cup cherry or grape tomatoes - halved or quartered
  • 1/2 English cucumber - chopped
  • 1/2 medium red onion - thinly sliced
  • 1/2 bell pepper (any color) - chopped
  • 1/3 cup Kalamata olives
  • 3 oz (85g) Feta cheese - cut into cubes

Greek dressing ingredients:

  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 garlic clove - pressed or minced
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1 large lemon - juiced
  • 3 Tbsp olive oil - extra virgin
  • sea salt and fresh ground black pepper

Instructions

  • To cook the bacon, preheat your oven to 350F/180C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange the bacon strips on a single layer onto your prepared baking sheet, making sure they don't overlap. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes to 15 minutes, or until crispy. Remove from the oven and transfer to a paper towel to drain the excess fat.
  • While the bacon is cooking in the oven, start preparing all veggies and place them into a large salad bowl.
  • Add crumbled bacon, Kalamata olives and feta cheese.
  • Add all dressing ingredients to a mason jar and shake to combine.
  • Just before serving, drizzle the dressing over the salad and gently toss to combine. Enjoy!
